By building strong networks within satellite communities across Galway County, TRIBES can be the lynchpin of the creative arts for young people county wide. It will benefit the local areas by bringing artforms not already established there into the spotlight (e.g. Architecture or Breakdance) and allowing young people to try out an alternative form of artistic expression without financial commitment, and logistical difficulties.
The target audience of TRIBES is a youth audience, aged 15-23. This target group was chosen as the focus for the festival as it is something lacking in Galway. There are many avenues for young people to explore if they are interested in sport or gymnastics, for example. There are not many experiences for a youth audience that are completely free and accessible to a wide ranging audience of varying abilities and interests, particularly in the creative arts. Young people will be provided with the tools to allow them the opportunity to be introduced, to understand, to develop, to create and to execute different artistic styles that evoke a sense of identity as well as self-expression. This project will be a coming together of youth, cultures and ethnicities highlighting the power of communities working, creating and performing together through process and development. This will in turn help to build community bonds among young people who may not have come together otherwise.
TRIBES aim is to help promote self-esteem, critical imagination and self-expression among young creative youths by providing free performances, workshops and discussions for the participants.
